September 1 – National Hummingbird Day

Today is National Hummingbird Day.

I love this holiday, it reminds me of my grandmother. She pasted a few years ago and she loved hummingbirds. Every time I see one now I think of her.

She and I use to sit on her front porch and watch the hummingbirds at the feeder she’d hung on the porch. She’d had the feeder up for so long sometimes it seemed as if the hummingbirds felt comfortable enough to hover right in front of her. They’d flap their strong little wings hovering right in front of her as if to say “Thank You”. She loved when they did that.

This day I will dedicate to my grandmother who I know is reading this and smiling.

Celebrate this day by going out and buying a hummingbird feeder and enjoy watching the life of a hummingbird. Who knows maybe you’ll start some special memories

  1. Helen

National hummingbird day, Wattle day in Australia; we should have a global spring day.

  2. A friend has hummingbird feeders all around her house, and I love to walk from window to window and watch their quickly moving bodies. She says they are eating like crazy now preparing to head south.
