May 12 – National Nutty Fudge Day

 
Fudge is thought to have been first created in the US in the late 1800’s.

The first documented chocolate fudge recipes came from two female college students in New York during 1888.

The girls would make batches of fudge and sell them for .40 a pound. The first chocolate fudge recipes were very complex and precise. Today the majority of chocolate fudge recipes are simple enough for novice cooks to obtain perfect results.
 
 
Here is a nutty chocolate fudge recipe:

Ingredients:
3 cups milk chocolate chips
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup butter
1 cup chopped walnuts or other favorite nuts (optional)
1/8 tsp salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 
 
Directions:
Place milk chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, butter , salt and vanilla extract in large microwaveable bowl. Microwave on medium until chips are melted, about 2-5 minutes, stirring once or twice during melting. Stir in nuts, if desired.

Pour into 8×8-inch pan that you have lined with foil and coated with cooking spray. Refrigerate until set. Cut into squares and enjoy!
