August 3 – National Watermelon Day

Today is National Watermelon Day

Watermelon is my favorite summer fruit it’s juicy and sweet. With high temperature still forecast for several more days, watermelon is a great fruit for a quick cool down.

There are many summer dishes/drinks you can make with water melon.

  • Watermelon martini
  • Sliced watermelon
  • Salsa
  • Appetizers
  • Watermelon gazpacho
  • Chocolate covered frozen watermelon slices (make sure the watermelon is sweet before you freeze it)

Those are just a few things that I cans think of. Use your imagination come up with a tasty family recipe that can be passed down.

Enjoy this day!

  1. This is my absolute favorite fruit. I could not have made it through all my children being born in the summer without eating a lot of cold watermelon. It really helps with water retention and swelling. I wrote a post on the best way I have found to cut a watermelon without any mess at: http://recipesforourdailybread.com/2012/05/23/how-to-cut-a-watermelon-or-cantaloupe-with-no-mess/#more-6545
