ibotta: How it works

It has been brought to my attention I did not provide an explanation as to what the ibotta app does or what it’s for. Please see below.
Thank you Simply Eclectic for the heads up.

Ibotta is a free mobile app that gives consumers a new way to earn money when they shop. It is a fun and easy way to earn real money. Ibotta pays users cash rewards for learning about and purchasing your favorite products.

It’s easy. Learn about products by taking polls, reading facts, reading recipes or watching short videos – you choose how much or how little. All of these facts together take less than a minute. I was worried about the polls, but so far they have been 1 question and take no time at all. Each fact has a monetary value.

Ibotta works in your favorite retailers including Walmart, Target, Rite Aid, CVS, Walgreens, Vons, Ralphs, King Soopers, just to name a few, with new stores being added all the time.

It’s fast. Get your money within hours of taking a photo of your receipt.

It’s real cash. Earnings can be transferred securely to your PayPal account or donated to any school in America with the click of a button.

It’s personalized. Every time you redeem an offer, they’ll send a new one. Tell them your likes and dislikes and they’ll send you personalized offers.

It’s full of your favorite products. Ibotta sends you offers from all the top brands.

It’s secure. Your information is private and they intend to keep it that way. They never share your email address with anyone.

There is no credit card information stored or kept.

Here’s how it works:

1. Go to the ibotta home page

2. Click sign up with email. I created an email account just for ibotta. I wanted to monitor the account for spam and I’ve gotten none so far.

3. Fill out all the information requested.

Ibotta registration

4. A confirmation email will be sent to you. Click on the confirmation link within the email and download the free ibotta app for iphone or Android.

5. Find the app on your phone and log in.

6. Once you’re logged in you will be able to see the ibotta offers. Scroll through your offers, tap on an offer your interested in. Each offer has tasks assigned for a monetary value. You can complete 1 or complete them all. The more offers you choose and redeem the more cash back you’ll earn.

ibotta offer 1

7. Go Shopping. Buy your chosen product offers at any of the major retailers ibotta supports. I try and match the items with paper or ecoupons for even more savings.

8. When you are ready to submit your receipt to ibotta tap the “Redeem” button in the bottom right corner. Choose the store you purchased your items from, if you made purchases from more than one store you’ll have to scan multiple receipts. Take a photo of your receipt and scan product barcode. When you’re done submit your receipt to ibotta. The app will navigate you through this process. Ibotta will verify your purchases and credit your ibotta account.

9. Once ibotta has verified and credited your account you can choose to get your cash loaded into your PayPal account, donated to any school in America or donated to the United Way.

I’ve only had the app a couple of days and have used it once and made $9. My Paypal account was credited within half an hour of my scanned receipts being submitted. So far I am very impressed. If you feel apprehensive about downloading read the reviews when you download the app. The Android app has a 4.6 rating and the iphone app has a 4+ rating.

December 6 – Microwave Oven Day

Today is Microwave Oven Day!

mICROWAVEIn 1942, a man named Dr. Percy Spencer was testing the magnetron and discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted. He conducted a series of tests and concluded that microwave energy caused food to cook much faster than the heat from a conventional oven. The first microwave oven, produced in 1947, was called the Radarange. It stood 5.9 feet tall and weighed 750 pounds.

Today, over 90% of American households own a microwave oven. In fact, there is an entire food industry based on this one appliance. Just think of everything you can cook in the microwave — frozen meals, leftovers, popcorn, “mug brownies,” and much more.

To celebrate Microwave Oven Day, pick up your favorite microwaveable meal for dinner tonight!

Target has the following deal on Barilla Microwave meals (perfect for tonight):

TARGET DEAL:

Barilla Microwave Pasta Meals $2.30
-$1/1 Barilla Microwaveable Meal 12-2-12 SS x1/26
$1/1 Barilla Microwaveable Meals
= $1.30 after coupon

ENJOY YOUR NIGHT OFF!!

Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First celebrated on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.

In 2010 the holiday was conceived and promoted by American Express via a nationwide radio and television advertising campaign. That year Amex bought advertising inventory on Facebook, which it in turn gave to its small merchant account holders, and also gave rebates to new customers to promote the event.

American Express publicized the initiative using social media, advertising, and public relations. At least 41 local politicians and many small business groups in the United States issued proclamations concerning the campaign, which generated more than one million Facebook “like” registrations and nearly 30,000 tweets under the Twitter hashtags #smallbusinesssaturday (which had existed since early 2010) and #smallbizsaturday.

Cinda Baxter, founder of The 3/50 Project, was national spokesperson for Small Business Saturday its first year. The 3/50 Project encourages consumers to commit to spending $50 of their current monthly budgets with independently owned small businesses they care about.

The Twitter hashtag #SmallBusinessSaturday has existed since early 2010 and was used to promote small businesses on any Saturday (not solely that Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday). The hashtag is used in a manner similar to #FollowFriday to highlight favorite local businesses.

The countdown has started!!

We all tell ourselves “I’m starting Christmas shopping early this year”. I do it too, but I never start as early as I’d like and inevitably I’m running around a few days before Christmas. This year I hope to take advantage of Cyber Monday deals, I’m not one to deal with the crowds on Black Friday.

So first on my list are holiday cards. Found this and thought I’d share.

The hunt is on!

Nothing but DIY…

Every year I tell myself I’m going to start Christmas shopping early.

This year will be difficult, even more than last year. Money is tighter than last year and I’m racking my brain trying to figure out how to cost effectively do holiday shopping this year.

So, I’m on a mission to find the best and most cost efficient ways to decorate, buy food and get gifts.

As my search progresses I will share my findings with you all.

Sharing is good so if you have any ideas that can help please feel free to share.

The hunt is on…….Happy Holidays everyone. Be safe.

So, to start off here is a link to some DIY costumes for the kiddos. The ideas came from the parenting.com website. Some are cost effective and some are not. Some of the DIY costumes are really cute and inventive.
