HAPPY NEW YEAR…..2013

New year glitter comments, animated newyear gif scraps, happy new year wishes

The New Year is another chance to start fresh, make resolutions and try new things. Our hopes are high and our intentions good.

Our resolutions should be reasonable, in the short term and obtainable but require some effort. Once you have reached your initial short term goal, set another.

Now is the time to make the commitment. Resolutions serve as excellent tools to keep you focused, organized and motivated.

Create a plan of action to achieve your goal(s). Putting it to pen and paper is very beneficial.

If you find yourself straying or have already strayed, don’t give up! Accept it and move on. We all stumble.

Be patient! It takes hard work and dedication, no matter what the goal is.

Good luck and let me know how you’re doing.

Happy New Year Everyone!!

National Drunk and Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month

December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month.

Nat'l Drunk and DruggedThe holiday season is in full swing. Holiday parties are scheduled and Christmas day and New Year’s Eve parties are looming.

Enjoy the season and its opportunities to rejoice with family and friends but, please do so responsibly.

The concern is driving under the influence of any drug that affects the brain could impair one’s motor skills, reaction time and judgment. Impaired driving is a public health concern because it puts not only you at risk, but also your passengers and others who share the road.

If you plan to attend a party or other event where alcohol will be served, reserve the option not to drink alcoholic beverages.

If you intend to drink:

  • Designate a nondrinking driver and give that person the car keys before the event begins.
  • If you are taking medication, even over-the-counter drugs, check with a pharmacist in advance of the event to determine any affect mixing the medication with alcoholic beverages may have.
  • Know your limit and stay within it. Don’t participate in “chugging” or other drinking games that promote consuming extreme levels of alcohol.
  • Skip a drink now and then. Having a nonalcoholic drink between alcoholic ones will help keep your blood alcohol content level down.
  • Be honest with yourself. If you realize you’re impaired, make arrangements with the host to stay until you’re sober or call a friend or a taxi for a ride.
  •
If you are hosting a party:

    • Take the keys as individuals arrive to the event, and return them only when you’re sure the individual isn’t impaired.
    • Offer alcohol-free beverages and plenty of food. High-protein food, such as meat, cheese and peanuts, will help slow the absorption of alcohol into a person’s body.
    • Ensure guests leaving are either sober or are leaving with a sober driver.
    • If children under the age of 21 are present, ensure they are not given access to the alcoholic beverages.
    •
Whether you’re attending or hosting an event, be observant, and speak up, if necessary.

The holidays will be healthier if we not only take care of ourselves, but look out for others, as well.

While you’re doing your part to ensure our roads are safe this month, law enforcement personnel will be doing the same. Impaired drivers don’t only risk life and injury; they also take a chance of being arrested.

During the holiday season, in particular, police officers and sobriety checkpoints are stepped up. A report created jointly by the University of Georgia and the University of Missouri show the perceived risk of arrest is one of the biggest deterrents to individuals who consider driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drunk and drugged driving is a very serious subject.

Since 1981, every president of the United States has demonstrated his commitment to preventing impaired driving by proclaiming December to be 3D Prevention Month. I ask that you make that same commitment for the safety of yourself and others.

Goodbye summer……BIG hello to Fall

Hello Fall, welcome!

I have never been more happy to say the word “Goodbye” in my life.

California doesn’t usually get, what I call East Coast Summers. It’s been overwhelmingly hot,
humid and just down right sticky. Very uncommon for the West Coast.

This summer was the worst I can remember. It was the kind of heat that drained you of all your energy.

Well, no more FALL has arrived and I say WELCOME come on in and stay a while, a looooong while.

This is my favorite time of year. I love the “Hoilday Season,” the air is cool, crisp, clean and the leaves are changing (just beautiful).

I love thinking about sitting in the high school bleachers watching a Friday night football game drinking coffee or hot chocolate.

I’m in heaven right now.

Get Your Cleaning On

*****I posted this during the holidays and was asked to re-post to share the earth friendly cleaning supplies recipes below. We all should be conscience of what we are doing to the earth*****

I really didn’t want to write this because I hate cleaning, I know it has to be done, and I do it, but I hate it.

I thought my cleaning recipes might help everyone get their house ready for their Holiday guests.

Recently I have started to use homemade products to clean. It’s much cheaper than store-bought and they do just as good of a job and sometime even a better job.

Some of these recipes may not smell nice all the time but will dissipate when they dry. I’m writing this in hopes that you all will feel better knowing you did something good for the environment.

The environment is really the reason I started making my own cleaning products. I hear all the talk on the news and talk radio about how we need to take care of our environment. All that made me think about what my niece and nephew and their kids and so on, will have to look forward to in later years. Will they be able to pack a lunch of tuna sandwich’s and grape soda, like my mom and dad did for my family and go to the lake for the day and spend quality time together? Will there be water in the lake for them to even enjoy? Will gas be $8.00 a gallon?

It all starts with us and trickles down to the generations. If our kids see us trying to be green and recycle they will too and so on.

These are my favor recipes.  I use them weekly, if not daily.

All-Purpose cleaner – dissolve ½ cup washing soda in a bucket of warm water.
USE: Kitchen/Bathroom – wash surface, then rinse. Not recommended for aluminum surfaces or no-wax floors. Cleans walls, counter tops, refrigerators, appliances, tiles, sinks, tub/shower, and toilet bowls.

Baby clothes – Add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to the laundry rinse cycle.
USE: Baby clothes – Helps break down uric acid and soapy residue, leaving baby clothes soft and fresh.

Bathroom mold cleaner – Mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) and 2 parts water.
USE: Spray on areas with mold; wait at least one hour before rinsing or using shower.
Warning: Be careful with hydrogen peroxide; it can take the color out of fabrics

Dishwasher Detergent – mix 1 cup baking soda with 1 cup borax (use sparingly). You can use 2 packs of sugar-free lemonade, if desired, for scent.
USE: 2 – 4 Tbsp per load, dependent on how big the load.

Floor Cleaner – Add ½ cup vinegar to ½ gallon warm water & mop. No need to rinse!
USE:To clean no-wax floors.

Multi-Purpose “Greener” Cleaner – Add the following ingredients to a 16-oz spray bottle, shake well: soap (flakes, powder, or liquid), 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar, 16 ounces (2 cups) water.
USE: Multi-Purpose

**DISCLAIMER: PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP ALL CLEANERS, EVEN GREEN,  AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND PETS**

I am re-posting this.  I believe it’s important to get the word out that I will be donating 25% of my Dec.15 -Dec 31 earnings.

Please help me help the American Cancer Society.
My earnings have been sparse so please pass the word along.
All help is greatly appreciated
They are there to help us and we should help them.

This holiday season I have been thinking a lot about all the friends and family I’ve lost in the last 5 years.  All passed due to cancer except one. Most recently was my boyfriends mother.
He reached out to The American Cancer Society for knowledge and guidance and they were so great to him. He appreciated it so much that he wanted to write a letter of appreciation after his mother passed.

Before he got the chance to write the letter they had called him to see if he needed any other information or help. Both he and I were impressed with their professionalism, patience and understanding. Because of that I have decided to donate 25% of all my Dec. 15 thru Dec. 31 earnings from Amazon to The American Cancer Society

Please use my Amazon link below to make your purchases thru Dec. 31.

I will post my earnings amount and donation amount by January 31st.
