Thanksgiving Every Day

The table is brimming with good things to eat;
We’re surrounded by family and friends; what a treat.
The feelings that fill us today can’t be beat;
It’s Thanksgiving Day, and it all feels complete.

But other days, sometimes, things don’t seem so fine;
Those days are not polished and don’t seem to shine.
It’s then in our minds, we forget all the good,
And think of the things we would get, if we could.

On days when our thinking causes us dread,
If we could remember, it’s all in our head,
And not let our minds take our gratitude away,
Then we’d make every day like Thanksgiving Day.

The hunt is on!

Nothing but DIY…

Every year I tell myself I’m going to start Christmas shopping early.
This year will be difficult, even more than last year. Money is tighter than last year and I’m racking my brain trying to figure out how to cost effectively do holiday shopping this year.

So, I’m on a mission to find the best and most cost efficient ways to decorate, buy food and get gifts.

As my search progresses I will share my findings with you all.

Sharing is good so if you have any ideas that can help please feel free to share.

The hunt is on…….Happy Holidays everyone. Be safe.

So, to start off here is a link to some DIY costumes for the kiddos. The ideas came from the website. Some are cost effective and some are not. Some of the DIY costumes are really cute and inventive.

Goodbye summer……BIG hello to Fall

Hello Fall, welcome!

I have never been more happy to say the word “Goodbye” in my life.

California doesn’t usually get, what I call East Coast Summers. It’s been overwhelmingly hot,
humid and just down right sticky. Very uncommon for the West Coast.

This summer was the worst I can remember. It was the kind of heat that drained you of all your energy.

Well, no more FALL has arrived and I say WELCOME come on in and stay a while, a looooong while.

This is my favorite time of year. I love the “Hoilday Season,” the air is cool, crisp, clean and the leaves are changing (just beautiful).

I love thinking about sitting in the high school bleachers watching a Friday night football game drinking coffee or hot chocolate.

I’m in heaven right now.

August 20th – National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day

Need an excuse to make a decadent dessert well here it is……Today is National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day.

Did you know pecans provide nearly 10 percent of the recommended daily value for zinc?

Pecans are the only tree nut that grows naturally in North America, and were a major food source for Native Americans during the autumn months because of their plentiful supply. The word “Pecan” is a Native American word of Algonquin origin that was used to describe any nut needing a stone to crack.

There are a couple different variations of pecan pie. My favorite of course is Chocolate Pecan Pie.

The origin of the pecan pie is a little unclear. Some say the French substituted pecans in their pies while conquering New Orleans. Others say the syrup company Karo first published the recipe. Whatever the history, its spot is wee-deserved at your holiday table or windowsill.

I decided to add a Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe. I chose this recipe because it has a video.

August 19 – National Potato Day

Today is National Potato Day

Potatoes have been a popular part of diets around the world for centuries. They are an inexpensive and versatile veggie.

Did you know that more than 45 billion pounds of potatoes are harvested in the U.S. each year?
They are used to make a variety of different potato dishes. Potato salad and a baked potato are at the top of the list. My favorite is a good bowl of hot potato soup, but only if the weather is cold.

Potatoes are not only tasty—they’re good for you! Potatoes are loaded with vitamins and minerals. They contain high levels of important vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin C, potassium, and iron.

Today, enjoy potatoes prepared your favorite way to celebrate National Potato Day!

Do not get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.
