January 28 – National Have Fun At Work Day

Monday January 28th is “National Have Fun At Work Day”

Wanted to post this early so everyone can get organized and plan. HAVE FUN!!

Here are some suggestions to help your day be more fun and to help you and your co-workers have a great day!

1. If appropriate at your work place, bring up the “National Have Fun At Work Day” idea to your co-workers. Maybe folks could join in to bring snacks. Or maybe they’d even have other ideas to add.

2. Wear something a little offbeat to work. People will think you’re nuts – or just having a great day. Hopefully it will get the comments started. Perhaps everyone could dress a little offbeat.

3. If you have a small office – or a small department, little gifts are always a great way to begin the day.

4. Food always seems to be a hit around the job site.

5. A white elephant gift exchange is always fun.

6. If your group likes to party together, perhaps you’d rather save your fun until after work . Someone may offer their home or apartment and others join in with food, drinks and games.

7. Many of us may have work-at-home jobs. This national day of fun does NOT exclude you. If you work at home, email a couple of your good clients and share some fun.

If your work keeps you very busy – just sharing a smile and a few fun words can cheer up most everyone.

Keep this appropriate. Yes, we all have work gripes. Today with so many companies downsizing, or heaping more work on fewer people, or just doing all they can to stay in the black – a day with a little fun added can help you keep your sanity.

Ventura County Greek Festival

The 34th Annual Ventura County Greek Festival is here! June 22, 23 and 24, 2012.

New this year is the mud run with the “World Famous BootCamp Challenge 5K Run”.

Don’t forget your coupon for free admission.

This festival is so much fun. There is always a lot to do. There are rides and events for all ages from jumpers and slides to arts and crafts.

How can you forget the dancing. Dancing is a cultrural expression for Greeks. The dance group from The Greek At The Harbor will be performing. Don’t be shy join in, they’ll teach you the moves.

And the food….OMGosh. This is what I love the most. I don’t eat for three days after the festival. I just can’t get enough. There are appetizers, sausages, lamb and the desserts are to die for.

If there’s one thing you do this weekend visit Ventura County’s Greek Festival in Camarillo at the St. Demetrios Greek church on the Camarillo airport.

You can’t let this weekend go by without experiencing the love the Greeks have for their culture.

Enjoy!!

Working for fun

What if hard work was actually fun? Just imagine how much more of it you would choose to do, and how much additional value you would create.

Just think of how many more great things you could accomplish.

Imagine that some person or some group wanted to hold you back, to keep you from being your very best. What would be a good way of doing that?

One extremely effective way to hold millions of people back would be to spread the assumption that difficult, challenging work is to be avoided. That being the case, is it really an assumption you want to willingly hold on to?

What’s fun, and satisfying, and fulfilling for you, is whatever you decide is fun, satisfying and fulfilling. If you so choose, that can include intense, difficult, challenging and even tedious work that creates great value.

Are you being held back by your assumptions about what is enjoyable and fulfilling, and what is not? You’re free to change those assumptions any time you choose.

Get Your Cleaning On

*****I posted this during the holidays and was asked to re-post to share the earth friendly cleaning supplies recipes below. We all should be conscience of what we are doing to the earth*****

I really didn’t want to write this because I hate cleaning, I know it has to be done, and I do it, but I hate it.

I thought my cleaning recipes might help everyone get their house ready for their Holiday guests.

Recently I have started to use homemade products to clean. It’s much cheaper than store-bought and they do just as good of a job and sometime even a better job.

Some of these recipes may not smell nice all the time but will dissipate when they dry. I’m writing this in hopes that you all will feel better knowing you did something good for the environment.

The environment is really the reason I started making my own cleaning products. I hear all the talk on the news and talk radio about how we need to take care of our environment. All that made me think about what my niece and nephew and their kids and so on, will have to look forward to in later years. Will they be able to pack a lunch of tuna sandwich’s and grape soda, like my mom and dad did for my family and go to the lake for the day and spend quality time together? Will there be water in the lake for them to even enjoy? Will gas be $8.00 a gallon?

It all starts with us and trickles down to the generations. If our kids see us trying to be green and recycle they will too and so on.

These are my favor recipes.  I use them weekly, if not daily.

All-Purpose cleaner – dissolve ½ cup washing soda in a bucket of warm water.
USE: Kitchen/Bathroom – wash surface, then rinse. Not recommended for aluminum surfaces or no-wax floors. Cleans walls, counter tops, refrigerators, appliances, tiles, sinks, tub/shower, and toilet bowls.

Baby clothes – Add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to the laundry rinse cycle.
USE: Baby clothes – Helps break down uric acid and soapy residue, leaving baby clothes soft and fresh.

Bathroom mold cleaner – Mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide (3% solution) and 2 parts water.
USE: Spray on areas with mold; wait at least one hour before rinsing or using shower.
Warning: Be careful with hydrogen peroxide; it can take the color out of fabrics

Dishwasher Detergent – mix 1 cup baking soda with 1 cup borax (use sparingly). You can use 2 packs of sugar-free lemonade, if desired, for scent.
USE: 2 – 4 Tbsp per load, dependent on how big the load.

Floor Cleaner – Add ½ cup vinegar to ½ gallon warm water & mop. No need to rinse!
USE:To clean no-wax floors.

Multi-Purpose “Greener” Cleaner – Add the following ingredients to a 16-oz spray bottle, shake well: soap (flakes, powder, or liquid), 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar, 16 ounces (2 cups) water.
USE: Multi-Purpose

**DISCLAIMER: PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP ALL CLEANERS, EVEN GREEN,  AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND PETS**

National Cream Cheese Brownie Day

Happy National Cream Cheese Brownie Day!!

Could anything be any better than a Cream Cheese Brownie?   I think NOT!

Although there are many different variations of brownies, cream cheese is one of my very favorites.

The swirl of the cream cheese gives the brownie just the right taste of tart and sweet, YUM.

Here is one of my favorite recipes  Raspberry-Cream Cheese Brownies

I love the recipe website.  Make sure you put your zip code in the field provided  (to the right of the word INGREDIENTS).   If there is a $ sign next to an item in the recipe, click on the item and it will tell you which store in your area has the item on sale.   For extra savings make sure to match those items up with any available coupons.   Cha Ching!!   Love it.

February Is National Snack Food Month

Super Bowls are probably the biggest snack event of the year.

It seems every year I forget something and have to run around trying to figure out what to get at the store.

Below are a few recipes you can throw together in no time and your guests will love them.

Shrimp Dip:  This is one of my favorites. I always have these ingredients on hand just in case.

1 pkg of cream cheese
1 can of DEVEINED shrimp
Salt and Pepper to taste

Place cream cheese in a glass bowl, drain shrimp (keep juice). Combine drained shrimp and cream cheese. Add small amounts of the shrimp juice as you go to loosen up dip. Dip should NOT be runny. It should be the consistency of a sour cream dip. To serve use any cut up veggies or any chips.

Cheesy Chili Dip:

1 pkg of Velveeta 2 to 3 cans of chili (no beans)
2 small cans of diced green chilies
Salt and Pepper to taste

Cube Velveeta. Combine 2 cans of chili (no beans), cubed Velveeta and 1 can of green chilies in a crock pot. Set on low and stir every 10 minutes. Check after 1 hour. I like mine with lots of chili. If you feel you need more chili add the 3rd can of chili (no beans) and the 2nd can of green chilies. To serve keep in the crock pot and serve with tortilla chips.

Deviled Eggs: The amount of eggs is dependent on the amount of guests you’ll have

2 Doz. Eggs
2 Tbsp brown mustard
1 small can of Salmon
Salt to taste
Paprika

Boil eggs the night before you put them together. Peel and cut eggs in half length wise. Place the yoke in a glass bowl. Combine yokes and brown mustard. Start with ¼ can of the Salmon, add more as needed. Make sure these are made at least 2 hours before your guests arrive. Refrigerate. Sprinkle eggs with paprika when removed from refrigerator. Eggs should be placed in a stay cool container when left.

Enjoy the Game!!!!
