Graduation….around the corner

This is what the 2013 world of seniors will be doing in a few weeks.

GRADUATION: grad·u·a·tion [graj-oo-ey-shuhn] noun

1. an act of graduating; the state of being graduated.
2. the ceremony of conferring degrees or diplomas, as at a college or school.
3. arrangement in degrees, levels, or ranks.

Make sure their accomplishments are known and celebrated. Order graduation announcements and party invitations today….oh and don’t forget the “Thank You” cards.

With a high school diploma or college degree in their hands our young people are about to embark on a tough new world, one tougher then when I graduated for sure.

There are so many unknowns and I’m sure concerns for a new graduate these days so I wanted to pass along some encouragement.

These are two quotes I like a lot and I hope they will encourage you in your new life.

Throughout life people will make you mad, disrespect you and treat you bad. Let God deal with the things they do, cause hate in your heart will consume you too.
Will Smith
You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world.

Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First celebrated on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.

In 2010 the holiday was conceived and promoted by American Express via a nationwide radio and television advertising campaign. That year Amex bought advertising inventory on Facebook, which it in turn gave to its small merchant account holders, and also gave rebates to new customers to promote the event.

American Express publicized the initiative using social media, advertising, and public relations. At least 41 local politicians and many small business groups in the United States issued proclamations concerning the campaign, which generated more than one million Facebook “like” registrations and nearly 30,000 tweets under the Twitter hashtags #smallbusinesssaturday (which had existed since early 2010) and #smallbizsaturday.

Cinda Baxter, founder of The 3/50 Project, was national spokesperson for Small Business Saturday its first year. The 3/50 Project encourages consumers to commit to spending $50 of their current monthly budgets with independently owned small businesses they care about.

The Twitter hashtag #SmallBusinessSaturday has existed since early 2010 and was used to promote small businesses on any Saturday (not solely that Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday). The hashtag is used in a manner similar to #FollowFriday to highlight favorite local businesses.

The hunt is on!

Nothing but DIY…

Every year I tell myself I’m going to start Christmas shopping early.
This year will be difficult, even more than last year. Money is tighter than last year and I’m racking my brain trying to figure out how to cost effectively do holiday shopping this year.

So, I’m on a mission to find the best and most cost efficient ways to decorate, buy food and get gifts.

As my search progresses I will share my findings with you all.

Sharing is good so if you have any ideas that can help please feel free to share.

The hunt is on…….Happy Holidays everyone. Be safe.

So, to start off here is a link to some DIY costumes for the kiddos. The ideas came from the website. Some are cost effective and some are not. Some of the DIY costumes are really cute and inventive.

September 16 – National Wife Appreciation Day

Today is Wife Appreciation Day

Wife Appreciation Day is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in September.

This day was created so that husbands and partners alike can be encouraged to recognize the level of commitment and dedication their wives’ display on a daily basis.

Busy careers, a slew of after-school activities with the kids and the never ending household chores, if you’re like many Americans, there just isn’t enough time in the day to get everything accomplished. Today serves as a reminder to let your wife slow down and smell the roses.

Surprising her with her favorite bunch of flowers or a beautiful floral arrangement is a great way to show how much you take into consideration all she does.

September 9 – National Grandparents Day

Today is National Grandparents Day!

Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

The motivation for National Grandparents Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife from Fayette County, West Virginia who raised fifteen children and had forty-three grandchildren. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to strengthen the bond with their grandparents. Today would be a great opportunity to talk to your grandparents about your family history or look through old photo albums together.

If your grandparents are no longer with us, consider volunteering to work with the elderly in your area.

In 1978 President Jimmy Carter proclaimed National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

Happy Grandparents Day to all the grandparents!
