National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

This is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. I know this is a sensitive subject to some of you but you need to take your health into your own hands and talk to your doctor about Colorectal Cancer.

For anyone who has had a relative or friend pass away from Colorectal Cancer you know how painful this disease is. To watch someone you care about go through so much pain is heart breaking. You wish deep down inside “If only they had gotten a colonoscopy”.

There will be 143,000 new cases of colon cancer diagnosed this year. It is estimated that 5% to 10% of all colorectal cancers are explained by a heredity. Colon Cancer deaths can be cut by 53% if everyone had a colonoscopy.

It’s unclear what exact causes colorectal cancers, factors such as lack of exercise, poor diet and polyps are known to contribute to the disease. Research shows that eating a lot of fruit and vegetables can help prevent colorectal cancer along with maintaining a healthy weight, being active and restricted use of alcohol.

Some of you may not know what a colonoscopy entails.  This article from March of 2011 will explain what needs to be done prior to the procedure, what is done during the procedure and what to expect after the procedure.

The FastDiet

the fast diet cover

The “fast diet”, does it work? Is it possible to eat normally for five days a week then fast, not in the traditional sense, for two days and become slimmer and healthier as a result? Will this diet really reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer?

Well if you believe the studies than the simple answer is Yes. Just by limiting your calorie intake for two nonconsecutive days each week, 500 calories for women and 600 for men, you’ll lose weight quickly and effortlessly with the FastDiet.

Scientific trials of intermittent fasters have shown that it will not only help the pounds fly off, but also reduce your risk of a range of diseases from diabetes to cardiovascular disease and even cancer. “The scientific evidence is strong that intermittent fasting can improve health,” says Dr. Mark Mattson, Chief of the Laboratory of Neurosciences, National Institute on Aging, and Professor of Neuroscience, Johns Hopkins University.

This book brings together the results of new, groundbreaking research to create a dietary program that can be incorporated into your busy daily life, featuring:

• Forty 500 and 600 calorie meals that are quick and easy to make

• 8 pages of photos that show you what a typical “fasting meal” looks like

• The cutting-edge science behind the program

• A calorie counter that makes dieting easy

• And much more.

Far from being just another fad, the FastDiet is a radical new way of thinking about food, a lifestyle choice that could transform your health. This is your indispensable guide to simple and effective weight loss, without fuss or the need to endlessly deprive yourself.

HAPPY NEW YEAR…..2013

New year glitter comments, animated newyear gif scraps, happy new year wishes

The New Year is another chance to start fresh, make resolutions and try new things. Our hopes are high and our intentions good.

Our resolutions should be reasonable, in the short term and obtainable but require some effort. Once you have reached your initial short term goal, set another.

Now is the time to make the commitment. Resolutions serve as excellent tools to keep you focused, organized and motivated.

Create a plan of action to achieve your goal(s). Putting it to pen and paper is very beneficial.

If you find yourself straying or have already strayed, don’t give up! Accept it and move on. We all stumble.

Be patient! It takes hard work and dedication, no matter what the goal is.

Good luck and let me know how you’re doing.

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Today is National Greasy Foods Day!

Although it might not be the healthiest choice out there, everyone loves the taste of greasy food. From pizza and nachos to burgers and French fries, it’s nearly impossible to ignore this guilty pleasure.

Did you know that fried chicken is the most ordered meal in sit-down restaurants in the U.S.? Even if it’s just for today, allow yourself to indulge in a little greasy good to celebrate National Greasy Food Day!

Not to be a downer but watch your cholesterol and sodium intake. There is always mock fried, meaning cooked in the oven to get the same kind of crunch.
