October 25 – World Pasta Day

Today is World Pasta Day!

A day dedicated to highlighting the nutritional and culinary advantages of pasta. This special day began in Rome in 1995 and is recognized around the world.

I LOVE pasta and don’t need a special day for it. I eat it at least 6 times a month, most of us don’t need a special day we just slurp it up, yummy.

Pasta is popular worldwide for Italian dishes, not to mention VERY economical when you’re on a tight budget. I’ve used it for various dishes I’ve made like cold pasta salads, various hot pasta meals, Halloween pasta dinners, you get the picture.

Just had to add one more recipe. I used to eat this a lot for breakfast, I know it says dinner but ya know, when we had leftover angel hair pasta. It’s very inexpensive to make, especially if you can get the ingredients on sale. If I made it now I would have to manipulate it to bring the sodium content down under 300. I’d probably delete the milk and used water or soy milk.

There are so many wonderful and healthy dishes you can make with pasta. It’s only left up to your imagination. So make a BIG bowl to share with someone and cozy up on the couch and watch a movie. 🙂

If you’d like post your favorite pasta dish with a recipe in the comments section.

September 15 – National Linguine Day

Today is National Linguine Day!

Linguine is a long, flat, narrow type of pasta which is wider than spaghetti, but not as wide as fettuccine.

It is most commonly used in seafood or pesto dishes such as linguine alle vongole (“linguine with clams”).

Linguine, which means “little tongues” in Italian, originated in the Liguria region of Italy. Take a moment to imagine you’re there at one of the local trattorias, taking in the wonderful aromas of good, hearty pasta dishes!

Linguine is a quick and easy dish to make for your family on September 15. If you do not feel like making the dish yourself, you can take your family out to a favorite Italian restaurant. Mention to the waitress or waiter that it’s National Linguine Day. Who knows? You might get a discount on your meal.

Enjoy National Linguine Day!

April is a month that gets you ready for the summer months and summer food.

The month of April was also full of great holidays. What April holiday is today? It’s National Shrimp Scampi Day.

In the USA, “scampi” preparation refers to an Italian-American dish of shrimp that is served with either pasta, rice or bread in a sauce of garlic, butter and dry white wine. The scampi sauce is one of the easiest sauce to create.

It’s not difficult to find Scampi recipes on the internet. I’d like to share my favorite Shrimp Scampi recipe with all of you. Enjoy!
